A simple and effective production piece, the Square Circle consists of a rectangular tube that is open at both ends (the Square), and a cylinder, also open at both ends (the Circle). After showing both empty, the Circle is placed inside Square, and then a good variety of items can be produced. In the case of my children's show, those items were a long series of colorful tied scarves and a bunch of candy.
For the Suitcase of Wonders Show, I built my own apparatus from materials I purchased at a big plastics store on Canal Street in NYC (not sure if it is there anymore). From this outfit I produced a red scarf, a small rabbit, a fishbowl, and a gold birdcage. This was my opening number for quite a while.
