Weeks later, Mr. Widdle unveiled the short film to me, and I was satisfyingly amused at its odd format and quirky content. Upon reflection, I could see the beginnings of the idea for the Suitcase of Wonders in the personae of the headless magician in the video. There was also some great, if brief, archival footage of an old, now defunct, magic shop in Miami, Florida. I mentioned to Mr. Widdle his use in the video of music by the band, Camper Van Beethoven, and he told me that he recently contacted the singer/songwriter of the band, David Lowery, who generously gave Mr. Widdle permission to use the music (27 years later!) in the video online.
I now present the somehow both dated and timeless short film by Mr. P.T. Widdle, "You're Not Supposed To See That" (1989) for my diary's ostensible readers. Note: Be sure and watch until the very end for the "kicker."
